Meet our new Head of Department – Dr. (Mrs) Victoria Ogunnike Faleke
Dr. (Mrs) Faleke, Victoria Ogunnike holds an NCE, BA, MA, and Ph.D in English Language from Federal College of Education (FCE) in Kontagora, Niger State, Usmanu Danfodiyo University in Sokoto State, University of Ibadan, Oyo State, and Ahmadu Bello University Zaria, Kaduna State, Nigeria, West Africa, She had been involved in lecturing and research at two Federal Universities in Nigeria before relocating to KNUST, and rose to the rank of Associate Professor.
Dr. Faleke is a Pragmatician with keen interest in Pragmasemiotics, Multimodal Discourse Analysis (MDA) and Applied Linguistics. Her areas of expertise include language and health, language and culture, language and society, language and digital humanities, language and communication, language and entrepreneurship, English language in ESL environments, etc.
She is a member of many scholarly associations at national and international levels. She is a member of the International Association of Teachers of English as a Foreign Language (IATEFL) UK; Member, Teachers of English as Second and Other Language (TESOL) USA; Member, Ireland International Conference for Educators (IICE) Republic of Ireland; Member, International Pragmatics Association (IPrA) Antwerp, Belgium and Member, Society of Academic of Doctors.
She is also a member, English Scholars Association of Nigeria (ESAN); where she earns the accolade ‘mamaesan’ because of her assiduousness to the association. She was the national treasurer for five years, auditor for two consecutive times and currently the Vice President.
Dr. Faleke is also a Member, West Africa Linguistic Congress (WALC); Member, Pragmatics Association of Nigeria (PrAN) and the Northwest Coordinator. At the national level, Dr. (Mrs) Faleke is a member of the Linguistic Association of Ghana and Literature Association of Ghana. She has received some awards for her dedication to research which includes the Nigerian Tertiary Education Trust Fund Conference award in the years 2013, 2015 and 2016.
She has presented her research at numerous national and international conferences and has an impressive list of publications. She is currently on a research Book Project with Prof. Istvan Kecskes at State University of New York, who is the President of American Pragmatics Association (AMPRA).
Dr. Faleke is the current Head of the Department of Language and Communication Sciences, Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Kumasi. The Department runs five accredited programmes namely Akan Language and Culture, French Language and Culture, Media and Communication Studies, Linguistics, and Chinese Language and Culture, Spanish Language and Culture is yet to be fully accredited.
She is happily married with children.
