Three alumni of the Department of Languages and Communication Sciences of KNUST were awarded last week at the GJA Ashanti regional media excellence awards ceremony held in Kumasi. The awards recognized journalistic work across different beats, including health, business, entertainment, environmental reporting and community impact.
They are Doris Lonta of Citi FM and Channel One TV, Clinton Yeboah and Nana Boakye Dankwah Yiadom, who are both of Luv FM, a subsidiary of the Multimedia Group Limited.
Doris Lonta won Best in Agriculture Journalism, a category that recognizes reporting on agriculture and related issues. Agricultural journalism remains significant to Ghana’s economy, where the sector supports livelihoods, contributes to food security and provides employment for a considerable section of the population.
Clinton Yeboah also secured first place in both Best Health Journalism and Best Business and Economy Journalism.
Nana Boakye Dankwah Yiadom, meanwhile, won first place in Best Community Impact Journalism, placed second in Best Health Journalism and finished third in Best Environment, Science and Climate Journalism.
The GJA Ashanti Regional Media Excellence Awards seeks to celebrate journalists whose work contributes to public understanding of issues affecting communities across the region.
