Meet Dr. Solace Yankson, Head of Department
Solace Ago Yankson obtained her Bachelor’s degree in Linguistics and Philosophy at the University of Ghana, Legon, in 2001. Afterwards she worked as a Teaching Assistant at the Department of Linguistics, University of Ghana, from September 2001 to August 2002. She proceeded to have her MPhil degree in Linguistics at the Department of Language and Communication Studies, Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU), Trondheim, Norway from September 2002 to August 2004.
In November 2005, she was invited by the Late Emerita Prof. Mary Esther Kropp-Dakubu to work as the investigator for the project, The Sociolinguistic Aspects of Akan in Accra, at the Institute of African Studies, University of Ghana, Legon. This project whipped up her interest in the Akan variety as spoken by Akan migrants in Accra.
On the 1st of November, 2006, she was appointed as a lecturer at the Department of Modern Languages, (now the Dept. of Language and Communication Sciences), at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Kumasi, Ghana. She obtained her PhD in Linguistics at Radboud University, Nijmegen, in March 2018. She is currently the Head of the Department.
